Our guide made this tour a fascinating adventure into the history of the western world. You can literally walk into the history of of this ancient land and follow the stone and marble paths that the ancients walked in Delphi, Epidaurus, Olympia, and Mycenae while your guide provides context from ancient to classical to modern history.
The monasteries at Meteora are an example of the more modern, maybe 14th century, and a delight in themselves. This whole area is a geological and historical wonder and the caves were inhabited some 50,000 years ago.
The guide was extremely engaging and considerate of everyone in our group and managed to spare us from entanglement with crowds or other larger groups at each of these sites. An earlier reviewer noted that the hotel stops are all at the Amalia chain hotels which are just ok and, with the exception of Delphi, are all located too far from town to allow for any exploration by foot. But the days are fairly long, dinner is always at 8 and you may be ready for bed by the time you finish up. Hope so, cause there's not much else to do.
I started my trip to Greece with this tour and that worked well for me, gave me a lot of historical context and introduced me to the country under the gentle guidance of our tour guide. A few more highlights included a trip to lovely coastal village of Nafplio, a stop at the dramatic Corinthian Channel and a bit of shopping on our way out of Olympia. This tour is really highly recommended.
